The star of the auction was a piece of motorsport history: a BBS R-RE407 forged magnesium wheel from the 1998 Tyrrell 026 Formula One car. This authentic F1 wheel, featuring a center lock design and 13-inch diameter optimized for quick pit stops, represented the final car built by Tyrrell Racing before its transition to British American Racing.
Despite challenging weather conditions that forced the auction indoors, the BBS showroom buzzed with competitive energy as collectors and enthusiasts bid on rare motorsport memorabilia including racing shoes and gloves autographed by IndyCar driver Graham Rahal and vintage BBS wheel cones. The vintage wheel ultimately went to longtime Piston supporter Jimmy Repasi of Repasi Motorwerks in Stratford, Connecticut.

This generous $10,000 donation will fund scholarships for two aspiring automotive technicians, directly supporting Piston’s mission to build career paths in the collector car industry. The collaboration between Wheelprice, BBS Wheels USA, and the broader car community demonstrates how passionate enthusiasts are investing in the next generation of skilled craftspeople.
The auction exemplifies the power of community partnerships in preserving automotive culture through education and training opportunities.
